First Time Coming to Schaumburg, Illinois – Did You Know?
YESTERDAY
Incorporated in 1956, the village of Schaumburg’s heritage dates back to the original Native American inhabitants from Sauk, Fox, Potawatomi, and Kickapoo tribes. Settlers started to arrive from Germany and the eastern United States by the mid-19th century, and by 1870 the Schaumburg Township had become entirely German. Land records have recorded the township property as being owned by German immigrants or their descendants, as these Yankee “settlers” followed the promise of newly opened lands on the Great Plains. It was the Great Depression of the 1930s that brought foreclosure on some German-owned farms, which were then bought by other individuals and companies.
